Smart Enemy was my first punk band, created in 2007 with my brother Casey Hanlon (drums) also from the DamageD crew. We were heavily influenced from the earlier AFI albums and Screeching Weasel. We wanted to have a fast punk band. Even if our songs sounded bad at the time,we didn't care, we were just having fun playing and being in a band together. A lot of our lyrics we wrote referenced lots of jokes and humor. Everything was sung in jest. From our first bassist Andrew Chavez, and then to our last bassist Mitchell Garret, both from the DamageD crew. Playing guitar in this band pushed me to become a better musician, shaping every future project I took on. Including a couple of bands I played for years down the line. Writing songs/lyrics and bass for those bands. As Smart Enemy ended, I fully embraced my journey as a musician, I dove deeper into focusing more on playing bass more than guitar and continued as a lyricist and songwriter. That shift gave me a whole new perspective. These days I am now a solo artist, who loves to play bass and write songs on my free time, but always up for starting a new punk band, when the time is right.
